You quenched their thirst!
For as long as he can remember, 69-year old Jacques Mettelus, a farmer and Catholic deacon also from Colladere, has struggled to access clean water. Your generous gift provided an urgently needed resource that could not have come too soon for Jacques, his wife Louicilia and their six children.
It was Jacques who took the initiative in bringing his village’s plight tot he attention of Fr. Meaux and the Mission. Sadly, the unsanitary conditions his family endured for so long – drinking and washing with contaminated water while living in a crude mud shack – had already claimed a life. Jacques’ daughter Guerda tragically passed away in 2012 from typhoid, a bacterial disease transmitted through food or water. But thanks to the support from friends like you, his other children need not suffer the same fate.
“The well is producing a lot of water. It is a rich well,” said Jacques, who has also received a new house and other support from the Mission. “My family and the other families in my area always thank God, the Mission and the donors for the wonderful water well.”
Thank you for your gift!
Access to clean water is such a basic need that even in communities where hunger problems exist, the number-one request from church and community leaders is still for help to provide safe drinking water.
The people of Rhodes Des and Colladere are so thankful you joined our mission to bring clean water to their villages. This not only helps prevent cholera and other potentially fatal waterborne diseases, it provides a strong demonstration of Christ’s love to suffering families in a region that, for many years, was in bondage to oppressive voodoo belief practices.
Through your generosity, you brought hope to the hurting and helped to draw the hearts of the poor to the peace of our Savior who declares, “But those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life” (John 4:14).
