Garden is Planted

An intrepid group of eight parishioners planted the church vegetable garden on Saturday, June 2.  The volunteers were: Joe McMullen, Bill Saarie, Matteo Tamilia, Cindy Ventrone, Brian Dahl, Jacquie Raile, James Root, and Margi Lawrence. The soil was a little wet, but we managed to get everything in without a problem.  Tomatoes, peppers, beans, broccoli, carrots, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers and winter squash were among the vegetables planted.  After all the planting, we installed fencing around the garden to keep out unwanted visitors.
Produce from our vegetable garden is provided to our food pantry, and is distributed along with other food items to needy families.  Our garden is extremely productive.  I’m not sure if Father sprinkles holy water on it, but the vegetable yield is very impressive every year. We are talking about bushels of things like beans, broccoli, peppers, squash, and lots of everything else.  The fresh produce is always welcomed by food pantry clients.
